Mental Health

The total picture of your health is much more than just physical, because mental health is an important aspect of total well-being. HIV is very unique in that it can have a significant effect on a person’s mental health, including their mood, feelings, and emotions. A person who has never had mental health issues in the past may suddenly be dealing with them upon diagnosis with HIV, or others who have a history of mental health problems may find that their issues compounded or worsened with HIV diagnosis. A good overview of HIV mental health issues and coping strategies can be found here http://www.hiv.va.gov/vahiv?page=mental-01-00.

If you are having an urgent mental health issue, please call 209/558-4600 or go to 1501 Claus Road, Modesto, for 24-hour emergency mental health and suicide prevention services.
