Opportunistic Infections
There is a long list of opportunistic infections that a person with HIV can get, including toxoplasmosis, cryptococcal meningitis, tuberculosis, Kaposi’s Sarcoma, Cytomegalovirus, and many more. Once a person has been diagnosed with both HIV and an opportunistic infection, they are considered to have AIDS. And once a person has AIDS, they will always have AIDS, even if they recover from the opportunistic infection. An excellent review of opportunistic infections, their causes, treatment and management can be found at http://www.aidsmeds.com/lessons/StartHere8.htm
